Time for an Engine Repair
We left Echo Bay (Sucia Island) on October 16th, headed for Garrison Bay (San Juan Island). Shortly after we were underway, Greg noticed a different sound coming from the engine. He looked at it and thought it might be the belt tensioner pulley. Due to this, we decided to go to Blind Bay (Shaw Island) instead so we would be closer for a run to Anacortes for parts, if needed. Once we were anchored, Greg got to work in the engine room pulling off the part. Yep, his diagnosis was correct, the belt tensioner pulley was bad. For those that know, when we moved it, it wobbled a bit and when we turned it, it sounded like loose marbles inside. Sure sign that it needed to be replaced! So, the next morning Greg got on the phone looking for a part. He was able to order one through North Harbor Diesel and it was due to be delivered to them on Monday. While we waited, we did some crabbing and took a long walk in Friday Harbor, with a stop for a snack and beer at San Juan Island Brewery.
Monday came around and we got the phone call that the part was in. Woohoo! As we were making our way across Rosario Strait, we passed a ferry - those things are so huge!
While in town, we got to meet up with Heather (Greg’s sister) for a beer at Union Tavern. If you’re ever in Anacortes, they have a great chili dog! And, I’ve been very happy the last few times we’ve been there that they have an amazing beer from Larrabee Lager Company: the Larrabitaville POG Sour Ale. Yum!
As soon as we got back to Aurelia, Greg got busy getting the engine back together. Here is the part that was replaced, and where it is attached to the engine.
It’s so nice to have a very capable person on board who can fix just about anything. And, it’s very comforting to have our boat back up and running again.
