Traveling North, into Canada Again
On September 22, we started heading north again. While making our way from Hunter Bay (Lopez Island) to Reid Harbor (Stuart Island), we saw a group of wave runners out having fun!
And, I took the time to defrost the refrigerator. The ice builds up quite quickly, I did this last about 2 months ago.
In Reid Harbor we came across a C-Brats friend named Brock. It was great to visit with him for a while. C-Brats is an online community (and also have get-togethers each year) for C-Dory owners. We owned 2 C-Dory’s previously and loved the C-Brats community. Here’s a picture of Brock’s boat, along with Lia on the dock.
We checked into Canada at Bedwell Harbour on South Pender Island. This time was very similar to the last, we were on the dock for about 5 minutes while Greg called the number and got us all squared away. Then we continued on to anchor in Long Harbour on Salt Spring Island for the night. We took Lia over to Ganges to have lunch, go for a walk, and grocery shop. In Ganges Harbour there is an area marked with buoys where you are not supposed to boat in because it’s designated for sea planes to land and take off. The guy in this video was not paying attention and was just slowly putting his way in the area. Oops!
the red area is where it’s marked with buoys to stay out of that area
There was a nice sunset in Long Harbour that night.
On September 24, we made our way to Dunsmuir Islands, near Ladysmith on Vancouver Island. We went into Ladysmith for a few hours. There are many shops there, including a great kitchen store! We had a fabulous lunch at Fox and Hounds. After we ate, we learned that they are known for their pies (meat pies) and their chowder. We’ll be back for sure!
Right in the heart of Ladysmith, they have a painted crosswalk that is intended as a show of support for the LGBTQ community and a celebration of Ladysmith's commitment to diversity. The mayor at the time (Aaron Stone) stated, "Not only will the crosswalk brighten up the street, it will also showcase Ladysmith as a welcoming community based on diversity, inclusion and support for all residents." We loved the message that this put forward.
As we walked back to the water, we came across some very friendly bunnies who seem to be thriving in the area! I think we saw 20-30 bunnies there.
