Visit to Chatterbox Falls

Chatterbox Falls is in the Princess Louisa Inlet in British Columbia. It took us 6 days to get from Poulsbo to Chatterbox Falls. On January 14th, 2026 we left Poulsbo and made it to Kala Point (near Port Townsend). It was a cloudy but calm day on the water. Along the way we saw a couple seals as well as sea lions. The picture below is us going through the Port Townsend Ship Canal.

On January 15th, we left Kala Point and made our way to Reid Harbor on Stuart Island in the San Juans. Shortly after we got underway we passed this Coast Guard boat, along with the security boat patrolling the area around it. They did follow after us for a short time, then turned away.

Cindie got a sourdough starter from her niece (thanks Bri!) and it grew a bunch overnight! (from the bottom of the black strip) Here are a couple of things she has made so far.

It was a little bumpy going across the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but overall a very nice day.

We had a very nice sunset in Reid Harbor.

On January 16th, we pulled in to Bedwell Harbour on South Pender Island, BC. Our plan was to check into Canada at the customs dock there. Before we made it to the dock, the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) came up along side and asked if they could come aboard to do an inspection. The 2 men that came aboard were very nice, one did a walk-through of the boat. They did comment about how clean and orderly our boat is for being liveaboards. :-) We told them our plan of going to the customs dock there to check in and they informed us that it is currently closed for the winter season. We’d have to divert to Sidney instead. So, once their inspection was complete, we headed to Van Isle Marina in Sidney, BC. Clearing customs was easy and we were back off the dock within 10 minutes.

Our original plan was to make it to Pirates Cove on De Courcy Island that night, but given the diversion to Sidney, we didn’t have enough time to make it that far. So, we went to Montague Harbour on Galiano Island instead. Here are a few pictures along the way.

Once anchored, we walked around the provincial park.

On January 17th, we started out with clear skies, but we got into fog for most of the day. We made our way from Montague Harbour, out Porlier Pass and across the Strait of Georgia to Pender Harbour. Before getting out into the strait, we met up with our sistership (a North Pacific 42) named XXIV VII, piloted by Mark Weir. He has many pictures and videos of this trip on his Facebook and YouTube pages. I highly recommend you go take a look! Thanks for letting me share, Mark!

Sometimes while underway, it’s time to take care of household chores. This time it was defrosting the refrigerator.

Over these 2 days, Cindie’s sister (Debi) was in Vancouver visiting family. We realized just how close we were to each other. So close, yet so far…

We left Pender Harbour on January 18th and headed up Agamemnon Channel to the Harmony Islands. What a beautiful place!

A couple of locals welcomed us when we got to the islands.

On January 19th, we made our way up Jervis Inlet to Malibu Rapids. Then we had the 45 minute run up Princess Louisa Inlet to Chatterbox Falls. Here are a bunch of pictures and videos along the way.

Once we were settled on the dock, we walked around the area. The lodge has a large firepit inside and was a great hangout spot each night.

We also took Nugget out for a ride in the area. So pretty!

Each night we had a fire up on shore. It was a great time to visit with the rest of the group that was on this trip. If you’re reading this Mark, thanks for planning this, we had a great time!
