Octopus Islands

We left Chatterbox Falls on January 23rd, 2026 and headed north. The first night was in Ballet Bay, within Blind Bay. We dropped anchor shortly before sunset. And, pulled anchor in the morning shortly before sunrise.

Beautiful sunset in Ballet Bay

Leaving Ballet Bay

Along the way we passed Lang Bay!

On January 24th, we spent the night anchored in Cortes Bay, on Cortes Island. We took a walk on shore and saw this cute tree that someone made.

The next day we made the short trip over to Rebecca Spit, within Drew Harbour. We went ashore to visit Heriot Bay where we went for a walk, did some grocery shopping, and ate dinner at the Heriot Bay Inn Pub.

We went through Surge Narrows, during slack, so the current was very low. This is a necessity for our slow cruising boat.

We always need to keep our eyes out, looking for logs like this one floating on the surface - or worse, just under the surface!

On January 26th, we pulled in to the Octopus Islands. This is a very pretty area with clear water, no houses/buildings, and no other boats this time of year! This time it was also a safe haven from strong winds in the area.

When we came in, we passed this very large line partly floating on the water. Greg got ahold of it and we towed it to shore, tying it up so it will stay put and not end up in the water again. You do NOT want to end up with this wrapped around your prop!

While in the area we tried some crabbing, but didn’t have any luck. Just 2 small rock crab, not keepable. We could see the crab pot going down to the bottom on our fish finder!
