We Tried to go to Coupeville
On October 28th we headed out with our plan to be on the dock in Coupeville. We’d have an evening onshore, walking the town and visiting a restaurant for dinner. The forecast was for 1-2 foot waves, but that is not what we saw! Once we got close to Saratoga Passage, the conditions picked up quite a bit. While crossing toward Coupeville we were in 5-7 foot waves! Not very comfortable. But, the boat (and Lia being towed) handled it very well. The extra bilge keels (long narrow fins) that are installed on our boat do an amazing job at making it not very rolly.
Here’s what it was like:
Once we got to Coupeville the winds were quite strong. We hung out from the dock for a bit and tried to get Lia side tied so we could pull into the dock. We determined it was not doable and abandoned the idea of going to the dock for the night. Instead we went to the head of Penn Cove and tucked in to shore as close as we could. There were some winds for a while, but it died down around 10 pm and we were able to get a good night of sleep.
